Health Updates

  • October 27, 2013: Subha for the first time after coming to USA, went for the check up on Friday, October 18th. His counts are more or less OK, according to the doctor. He will soon get started with Immunization/Vaccination schedule. We will update any news about his health and well being at regular intervals. Thank you all.
  • 31st, August 2013: Subha has finally returned back to UTD/Dallas after about two years and is healthy now. His Doctors said that he can travel and start his work/life but he needs to take some necessary precautions. He will have to get check up done here in Dallas at regular intervals. He is very grateful about everything and expresses his gratitude to everyone who supported him and his family in this difficult time in whichever way possible. We will keep on updating the progress on his health/life front to his well wishers at regular intervals.
  • 25th, October 2012: Subha goes for one more checkup. It seems that he is progressing well and the doctors have asked him to come for checkups every 2 weeks now. He is gaining some energy but still is very weak. The doctors have asked him to be careful for the next 3 months and even avoid crowded places for risk of infections. He is still on a lot of medications. The effects will be monitored over the next 3 months when the doctors start reducing his medication levels.
  • 18th, October 2012: Subha goes for another checkup and undergoes a series of tests. Everything comes out clear. He is very weak still and needs a lot of time to gain energy. The doctors say that next 3 months are important for him to gain energy and for his body to stabilize all the parameters.
  • 11th, October 2012: Subha goes to the hospital for weekly checkup. His health is keeping steady. His fever has subsided now. He however is still feeling very weak. His food consumption is limited making his recovery process very slow. He is low on energy but on the right road to recovery. We all pray that this process continues and he gets back to full normal health in the next few months.
  • 28th, September 2012: Subha has been discharged from the hospital. He has high fever and is still very weak. He needs to go back to the hospital every week to get further checkups. The doctors are closely monitoring his progress and the next few months are crucial for his recovery. He remains extremely weak at present and is not in a condition to talk on phone with anyone. We hope he gets the energy in the coming few weeks to be able to talk and interact with his friends and well-wishers.
  • 23rd, September 2012: Subha has been shifted to a private ward from the bone marrow transplant division. He is making a steady progress, however he is still extremely weak.
  • 16th, September 2012: The recovery process is slowly going on in the right direction. His platelet count and other counts started showing signs of improvement. Have to wait for a few more weeks to know about the status of his bone marrow. Next couple of weeks are crucial for his recovery. We all hope everything goes well in these few weeks.
  • 9th, September 2012: Subha is recovering after the transplant. He has some reactions/complications come up during the recovery process. Doctors say that it would take 2-3 weeks for things to stabilize.
  • 22nd, August 2012: Subha undergoes bone marrow transplant.
  • 16th, August 2012: Subha admitted to the bone marrow transplant unit. Will undergo a tranplant in a week or so.
  • 10th, August 2012: Subha has to undergo a bone marrow transplant. He did not find a very good match and so the doctor's decided to go with his sister's bone marrow. He will undergo a transplant soon.
  • 25th, July 2012: Subha had a relapse of his condition. He needs further treatment and the prognosis would be decided in the coming weeks.
  • July 8th, 2012: After the subsequent chemotherapies, he is responding well. His blood counts are coming to normal level. Doctors are very optimistic for him. His next visit to Doctor is in July.
  • February 13, 2012: Subha visits TMC for blood tests. His counts are up and may be admitted next week for third round of consolidated chemo.
  • February 7, 2012: Subha visits TMC to monitor the progress of his recovery. His blood counts are improving but at a slower pace than earlier.
  • January 31, 2012: Subha discharged from hospital after second cycle of consolidated chemotherapy.
  • January 8 2012: Second cycle of consolidated chemotherapy started
  • January 7 2012: Subha admitted in the hospital for the second cycle of consolidated chemotherapy
  • December 10 2011: Subha discharged from the hospital. May need a second cycle of consolidated chemotherapy in two weeks
  • November 25 2011: Finished 1st cycle of consolidated chemotherapy
  • November 22 2011: First cycle of consolidated chemotherapy started
  • November 2, 2011: Subha discharged from hospital. Doctors monitoring his blood cell count once a week. Decision on further rounds of chemotherapy would be taken based on the stability of his blood count levels.
  • October 26, 2011: Search of bone marrow match has started, will know initial results in 1-2 weeks.
  • October 21, 2011: Finished first round of chemotherapy and his blood count is reasonably good now and his doctor will discharge him from hospital in the first week of November. His blood count will be monitored once a week for next 2-3 weeks.
  • October 10, 2011: Beginning of first round of chemotherapy at Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, under the supervision of Dr. Mammen Chandy who is renowned as “the father of bone marrow transplant” in India.
  • October 5, 2011: Subha’s sister’s bone marrow was tested for compatibility with Subha’s own. Unfortunately it did not match. Need to search in the databases across the world.
  • September 28, 2011: Subha Left for India.

  • January 8 2012: Karuna Fund Raiser - for Subha was successfully organized by the High Octavez group at Irving Arts Center, Irving, TX. The turnout was great and the event was a huge success. The funds collected would be transferred by the high octavez group directly to Subha.

  • February 18, 2012: The bone marrow drive at UTD was a huge success, thanks to the efforts of the Yes Club, UTD and the the Indian Student Association of UTD for their help in organizing and in spreading the word. Thanks to all the participants in the drive who took part in the drive with a huge spirit in spite of the rain.
  • February 18, 2012: We are planning to organize a bone marrow drive at University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). All UTD students please come in large numbers and support the drive for Subha and for the greater good of Indian community.
  • January 28, 2012: A bone marrow drive was successfully organized at TANTEX Sankranthi Sambaralu.
  • January 21, 2012: A bone marrow drive was successfully organized at India Nite organized by Indians Association of North Texas.
  • January 8 2012: A bone marrow drive was organized at the event Karuna Fund Raiser - for Subha at the Irving Arts Center, Irving, TX.
  • 5. January 1 2012: A bone marrow drive was successfully organized at the DFW Hindu Temple in co-ordination with BETHEMATCH registry from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
